Ayrton Senna da Silva
May 6, 2007 – 2.03, am“On a given day, a given circumstance, you think you have a limit. And you then go for this limit and you touch this limit, and you think, ‘Okay, this is the limit’. And so you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further. With your mind power, your determination, your instinct, and the experience as well, you can fly very high.”
Ayrton Senna da Silva (1960-1994)
Senna was a great man. I’ve watched F1 ever since I was a kid (I stopped a few years ago when Schumacher was winning, but maybe I get back to watching again someday). Ever since I could distinguish colours, I cheered for the yellow helmet. When I was 14, Senna died. I was devastated for a whole month.
I still have two scrap books I made of the articles in the newspapers about Senna, few posters of him, a book the famous commentator Miran Ališič wrote (surprising how easier is to read Ališič than hear him!) and a T-shirt. I also saw the documentary done on Senna Racing is in my blood, and it is really well portrayed what a good man he was.
Most of all though, I keep a good memory of a great man in me, and I always will. I knew little of him, when I was young and he was still alive, but I somehow felt him being a great man, a man who deserves to be respected.
Only now that I am older, I realize what a man he was and what he meant to all the people in Brazil and elsewhere around the world. Just imagine how many drivers he saved with his own death…
I read a great post on K.L.O.B.I. about Senna the other day ( Senna died on May 1rst) and the interested ones should read it, it’s really well written (in Slovene only).

He was a great driver indeed. After he died, I stopped watching Grand Prix and never got back to it… it’s just not the same.
