For introduction…go read Carniola post and Prigode Kita… post.

Done? OK…sit back.

I really do not know why the people who study science always (and I mean always) pick on people who study social science. “World would be better off without them“, “They are just wasting time with getting a degree from it“, “These guys have questionable ethics and are lazy“.

The stance these people are taking is as absolute as it gets. Social science, raus!

But would that really help? Let`s make a highly hypotetical scenario…

The disappearance of the social science

In the world without social science, people would have difficulties communicating. Things like language development, language theory would cease to exist since nobody would know how to form words, how to incorporate them into the real world and how to make good use of them.

In the world without social science, people would have difficulties resolving conflicts in a peaceful manner, since the diplomacy and international relationships would cease to exist.

In the world without social science, people would forget about the past since history and historians would cease to exist, leaving a hole where there was yesterday.

In the world without social science, things like art and music would cease to exist, since nobody would know the theory and the rules behind it. Not to mention, nobody would appreciate the art that already exists.

In the world without social science, people would not know how to deal with issues like negotiations and public relations, since nobody would know how to conduct them.

In the world without social science, all things that bring us together would cease to exist and people would slowly turn into machines.

In the world without social science, people would feel lonely and depressed, even more as they feel now, since there would not be anyone there to help them.

In the world without social sicence, people would go back to the stage of Homo sapiens neandertalensis, where the main thing on their mind would be how to roast the meat faster or how to kill an animal without getting injured.

In the world without social science, there would be just a machine. No spirit.

In the words of Baya…

People who study science, have a narrow scope. They see what is here and now. And that is why they feel the world is poor and simple. People who study social science, have a wider scope. They see what is here and there, now and before/after. That is why they think that the world is complex and rich

and with my conclusion

Science and social science have to work together, hand in hand, in order to provide an environment, comfortable for living. Destroying one of these two parts that complete us, would lead into total chaos and anarchy“.
